Harry Potter shows an extremely close correlation to Liberating Alchemy. These teachings state that there are two universes: the perfect, divine universe, known in western traditions as "The Kingdom of Heaven", and the degenerated imperfect universe with the restrictions of time and space, which we inhabit.

In a process of descent into matter, known as the "Fall", a part of original humanity lost its citizenship in Heaven and is now imprisoned in a finite world full of suffering, sorrow and death.

However there is a Brotherhood engaged in teaching the process of alchemy leading to total human liberation and the return to the House of God. This Brotherhood of the Masters of Compassion keeps trying through all the millennia to convey God's call for the return of his children. We know some of the Masters of Compassion by names such as Gautama the Buddha, Jesus the Christ, Lao Tzu, Zarathustra, Hermes Trismegistus, Krishna, Apollonius of Tyana, Mani, and many others.

We also have their teachings in a veiled, symbolic form, including "The New Testament", the "Tao Teh Ching", the "Kabbalah", "The Alchemical Wedding of Christian Rosycross", and "Harry Potter". The latter shows a very close correlation indeed to "The Alchemical Wedding", published in 1616.

The Characters in Harry Potter

Please also keep in mind the precept from "The Emerald Tablet" of Hermes Trismegistus: "As above, so below". The human microcosm has the same basic structure as the cosmos around us, i.e. the world. The Great Trilogy of the Fall, our present imprisonment and the resurrection of the Inner Christ applies both to our own life as well as the life of humanity in general.

The Weasleys

The Weasleys symbolise an extremely important set of organs which play a vital role in the process of alchemical liberation. Alchemy is a spiritual process involving the physical body as much as the invisible bodies. In Harry Potter the seven endocrine glands and their chakras are personified by the Weasley family.

Mythical Creatures Symbology

There is no "one interpretation" of any symbol and they don't belong to any single person or group. They are public property and anyone can use them for any purpose. Nevertheless they have a very strong power and they speak forcefully to our unconscious. There are very powerful traditions about some symbols and we have clear associations with some of them.

Other Symbols

JK Rowling uses universal symbols which are very ancient and resonate in the collective unconscious. Many of the symbols were used in the ancient civilisations which gave their ideas to our western world. We will therefore recognise Greco-Roman and Egyptian symbols.
